PREPRESS INSTRUCTIONS
1. Files in PDF format are preferred
According to our experience, PDF is the most reliable file format for the use in printing. You can use versions from Acrobat 5.0 (PDF 1.4) and above. Please use our PPDs for XXXXX for PDF file creation that may be downloaded at http://XXXXX). At this site you can also download job options (and save them under the “settings” within Acrobat Distiller folder), so that all settings necessary for printing are turned on automatically when creating a PDF file. Important: before you start creating a PDF file, please centre your work to the paper format to be printed on – for MAC: (cmd+a, cmd+g, align to page - hcenter, vcenter) / for Windows: (ctrl+a, ctrl+g, align to page - hcenter, vcenter).
2. Bleed size
A bleed area of 3 mm over the final format on each side has to be added to the format of your page. When the page is trimmed to the final format, the bleed area enables printing on the rim (bleed / live area).
3. Full black colour
If your file includes large black surfaces, 100% black colour is not enough to achieve full black colour. You should use CMYK colours of the following composition: C: 50%; M: 50%; Y: 50%; K: 100%. All vector-based elements in black must be set with the overprint option (turn on 100% black fill option).
4. Gradients
If you wish the best quality gradient, the best way to make it is by using Photoshop because vector generated gradients cause problems when RIPing and banding frequently appear (to be absolutely sure that no banding will occur, set up an "Add noise" filter (max. 2-3) on the gradient).
5. Fonts in files
There are two options:
a) the simplest and most reliable – if you work with vector-based applications, convert all fonts to curves and then start creating a PDF file b) if for some reason you are not able to do as specified under a) when creating a PDF file, don't forget to turn on absolutely all fonts within Acrobat Distiller ("embed all fonts").
6. CMYK colour mode and image resolution
Submitted files must be in CMYK (for bitmaps), i.e. colours used in them must be process colours, i.e. CMYK (for vector programmes). If you use colours other than CMYK in your file, such as RGB or Pantone, they will be converted to CMYK, whereby smaller or greater departures from the fidelity of colour reproduction are possible, for which we assume no liability. If you use spot (Pantone, HKS, etc.) colours, please tell us about it in advance. It is recommended that all colour images and images in grey tones in a file are 300 dpi. Otherwise we are not liable for the quality of printed materials.
7. Control
Please submit a sample colour print-out of satisfactory quality, e.g. Matchprint, Digiproof, Iris or original drawing. It is not necessary to submit a strictly defined type of proof. It must only be considered satisfactory as a final colour sample approved by the customer. If no sample has been submitted, we will do the task according to our calibration standards. Note: Printouts made on desktop inkjet or colour laser printers are not acceptable as reference colour samples. However, if a customer explicitly requests this, a proof sheet on a medium of the customer's choice can be made, to be charged additionally. For layout control, a printout made on a desktop printer (laser or inkjet) may be submitted. It serves as help in identifying the contents of your disk and identifying any errors occurred in data transfer and not as a reference for the comparison of colours.
8. Submission of documents in other formats
We accept other file formats for print as well: .PDF, EPS, .PS (in the creation of a .PS file, PPD for SCITEX Dolev4Press must be used). However, we prefer .PDF because our RIP on CTP is based on this platform. We can also accept open documents (Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw), which must be prepared strictly in accordance with the above instructions.
